Role Responsibility

  • To assist Project Managers in the project budgeting process, identifying project start-up issues and financial reporting requirements for new projects, and building these into the Finance and Project implementation timetable.
  • To support on a regular basis with finance and management staff in the UK.
  • To be the focal point for the gathering of monthly financial returns and the production of monthly project reconciliations.
  • To ensure all financial data is correctly recorded on the Finance system, and be the first point of contact for support on dimensions, and both internal and external audit queries.
  • To identify and resolve any financial issues with the Regional/Country Directors, Project Managers and/or Project Directors.  To pro-actively suggest new ways of working and solutions to problems where appropriate, including providing any relevant finance training for Country office staff including compliance areas.
  • To act as the first point of contact for project finance issues for all of the projects in a particular region/team.
  • To assist the project managers with the preparation of donor reports.
  • To prepare regular and ad hoc financial reports, analyses and forecasts for the Head of Project Finance, Regional/Country Director or Finance Director.
  • To support with quarterly project expenditure forecasts in conjunction with budget holders including Regional Directors and review these with senior staff as appropriate.
  • To oversee adherence to BBC Media Action policies and procedures in each region, including field trips to country offices to review and provide finance training as required.
  • To liaise with key donors on operational matters and BBC finance services supplier on a regular basis.

Are you the right candidate?

  • Qualified Accountant (ACCA/ACA/CIMA) with experience of management accounting in an international context.
  • Experience of working in international development on donor grant accounting
  • Some knowledge of the Charity Sector, relevant regulatory framework and an appreciation of International Development.
  • Experience of accounting for development projects in an international context.
  • Experience of working with UK and international donors and an appreciation of donor compliance issues
  • Good interpersonal skills to establish effective working relationships with financial and non-financial managers and staff both internally and across the BBC.  Able to communicate effectively at all levels within the organisation
  • Excellent IT skills with experience of operating computer-based financial management systems.  Competent to advanced level in Microsoft Excel.
  • The ability to present detailed and complex financial information in a clear, concise and readily understandable way, using IT applications as appropriate.
