ActionAid Vacancy for Assistant Programme Manager Asia Team

BBC Media Action uses various forms of media and communications to tackle poverty and contribute to long-term change in some of the world’s poorest places.

BBC Media Action delivers a portfolio of media and communications projects in Asia. We currently have teams in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Myanmar and Nepal, delivering governance, health, resilience and humanitarian response projects. The London-based Asia Regional team supports country teams to ensure existing projects are delivered on time, to budget, to the highest standards and in accordance with BBC editorial values. The team also plays a key role in expanding our portfolio of work by applying for new projects. We are recruiting an Assistant Project Manager to support our work across Asia.

Role Responsibility

As part of the Asia regional team and reporting to the Senior Project Manager, you will be the regional team point of contact for country teams and other internal teams to ensure the smooth implementation of current projects and to secure new business across the region. You’ll work on diverse tasks across all countries in Asia.  Working as tasked by Regional Director, Senior Project Manager, and Project Managers in London, you’ll support country teams to deliver their country programmes. You will be the first point of contact for country teams and build relationships across the organisation.  To help secure new projects, you will research funding opportunities and assist with drafting proposals and realistic budgets, working with country teams to ensure proposals and budgets are appropriately reviewed in London. You will also support project delivery in country, especially in terms of securing effective input from other departments within the organisation and managing external partnerships.

Are you the right candidate?

Experience of project management is essential.  You’ll need excellent relationship building skills with experience of partnership building and an ability to multi-task and meet/manage conflicting deadlines.  You’ll need to demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to international development, including the use of media for developmental goals, along with a demonstrable interest in Asia.  You’ll also need experience of working with people whose first language is not English.
