About the role
The post will be based in Maiduguri, Borno State. The post holder will provide results-based strategic guidance, leadership, management and capacity building to the Humanitarian Response team. In so doing, you will be expected to take responsibility for the development, management, and coordination of Christian Aid’s response strategy in an emergency situation/appeal in Nigeria.
As the Humanitarian Response Programme Manager, you will ensure that emergency projects and programmes are delivered with high impact, in line with agreed aims and with funds used for designated purposes. This will include supervision and successfully managing the emergency programmes in compliance with minimum humanitarian standards and in line with financial policies and procedures.
You will maintain strong linkages between partners work and advocacy, communications and fundraising activities in the UK and elsewhere. You will ensure that the emergency and disaster programmes are planned , managed and handed over to country programme staff at the appropriate time.
You will lead on Strategic engagements with the sector in the North East, government and other stakeholders and ensure that Christian Aid is visible and contributes to strategic decisions in the sector as may be required.
About you
To help make this happen, you will have considerable experience working internationally and an excellent understanding of and experience in emergency relief, rehabilitation and recovery programme. You are required to have knowledge of global development issues, including policy and advocacy topics and familiar with emergency problems relevant to the country or region. You must have a degree or its equivalent in relevant development discipline. A post graduate degree in relevant field or its equivalent is an added advantage.You will have a good knowledge of emergency relief, rehabilitation and development issues including capacity building tools and techniques, understanding of participatory vulnerability and capacity assessments, understanding of the partnership approach to emergency work. You will be an excellent communicator with the ability to develop cross-organisational relationships and be confident in engaging with external networks and actors including the media. You will have experience in supporting learning and development, have experience of working with local partners and understand linkages between humanitarian work and resilient livelihoods
