Role Responsibility
This position leads the HQ based Central Finance function of BBC Media Action, reporting directly to the Director of Finance & Business Services. The role will lead the continued development of finance systems and reporting tools, along with overseeing the day to day administration of the finance systems. You will produce the monthly management accounts and quarterly reforecast, coupled with monthly cashflow, debtors and FX reporting, along with monthly reviews of actual expenditure versus budget / forecast for central costs budget holders. Accordingly this role will require you to also produce the annual budget and plans. The Central Finance team is responsible for the production of the annual UK statutory group consolidated accounts and the external statutory audit and annual report.
You’ll also be expected to manage and develop the Central Finance team, including accounts receivables, accounts payables, Treasury and VAT accounting functions and maintain documentation of UK financial policies and procedures. Travel to overseas country offices to rollout new process or deliver training as required, possibly 2-3 trips per year, up to 2 weeks at a time.
The Ideal Candidate
This role will expect you to be a Qualified accountant (ACA / CIMA / ACCA) with well-developed technical finance skills, including charity accounting / SORP. Experience in financial reporting and accounting within an international development charity and have experience of financial and management accounting, with a proven track record of financial controllership, statutory accounting, statutory audits, organisational budgets and reforecasting. You will also have experience of managing teams, have previously worked across different finance teams both in UK and internationally, have the ability to build relationships and use well-developed influencing skills with a wide variety of people. This position will need you to have good interpersonal skills, be able to communicate effectively at all levels within the organization and have excellent IT skills. You’ll be required to have experience of change initiatives with financial accounting processes to utilise resources in the most effective way, have the ability to think “outside the box” in analysing processes and designing new solutions, taking the initiative in identifying problems, think creatively around problems and arrive and a clear and well-argued solution, then follow up with implementation. You will have the ability to present detailed and complex financial information in a clear, concise and readily understandable way, coupled with an eye for detail and a concern for accuracy, together with the ability to keep sight of the broad picture.
