This is a permanent position based at APM Terminals Southern Africa in Johannesburg and reports to the Country Manager.
APM Terminals Southern Africa consists of 7 operating branches with presence in Namibia, Cape Town, Port Elizabeth, East London, Johannesburg, Durban and Pretoria.
The Inland Operation is primarily responsible for empty and full container storage, handling, container repair and transportation. The operation predominantly provides a service to the shipping lines as well as clearing agents, transporters and cargo owners.
This position is responsible for the support and implementation of the Business Development strategy to accelerate the growth of the business.

Key responsibilities
*Provides measurable input to the business strategy within the limits of the role.
*Responsible for setting & delivering commercial objectives which are within the strategy & business plans of the business.
*Be creative in making improvements (enhancements and modifications) to existing systems, practices and approaches and influence working methods to meet customer needs & improve productivity.
*Prepares business cases for capital investment which provide for appropriate rates of return on investment and which contribute to growth of the business.
*Provides Market Intelligence and Market Research data/ information. Monitors competitor activities and recommends action where necessary.
*Develops & maintains an intimate knowledge of the trading environment for the business commodities and ensure management is kept abreast of trends impacting on, or likely to impact on the business.
*Selects, negotiates & enters into binding agreements with customers & support the execution & maintenance of service levels as agreed.
*Reinforce Group culture, values & reputation & ensure compliance with Group policies
*This position contributes to the establishment of longer term business strategy, Leads the translation of the Sales & Marketing strategy into business targets, budgets and tangible plans.
*Responsible for attracting and maintaining relationships with customers and ensuring the development of a highly professional relationship to the various decisions makers within the customer’s organization.
*Drives and manages the customer value proposition to secure growth and a profitable sales development.
*Identifies, develops and oversees business opportunities (local & regional).
*Oversees the preparation of tariff and cost analyses and comparative studies/reports.
*Manages and maintains relationships with key accounts- local & international.
*Measures and communicates commercial results to the organization (periodically).
*This position will be measured against the targets of new business and revenue brought into the company.

*Minimum college degree in business, marketing or related discipline.
