BBC Media Action is the BBC’s international development charity, which uses media and communications to help reduce poverty and support people to understand their rights. We do this through partnering with civil society, media and others to produce creative programmes and other outputs which inform and engage audiences on key development issues. We also strengthen the media sector through building professional capacity and infrastructure. We focus on health, governance and rights, and resilience and humanitarian response. In Bangladesh, we are a leading organisation in the humanitarian Communication with Communities sector, and are currently working alongside partners as part of the response to the Rohingya emergency in Cox’s Bazar.
Role Responsibility
You’ll be responsible for the management and delivery of our humanitarian response in Cox’s Bazar, ensuring that our projects deliver on time, on budget and to high quality. You’ll make sure that the content responds to audience needs, identified through formative research and user-testing, and that it fulfils the humanitarian objectives of our response. You’ll manage senior project and production staff, liaise internally with research, administration and finance teams and make sure our response is fully coordinated with the overall humanitarian architecture and other humanitarian actors responding to this major emergency. You’ll manage our working relationship with international and local partners in Cox’s Bazar – including managing sub-grants – and use your relationships with potential partners and donors to develop project ideas and write proposals. You’ll be based in Dhaka, but are likely to spend about 75% of your time in Cox’s Bazar.
The Ideal Candidate
We need your considerable experience of developing and managing humanitarian communications projects as well as your skills managing complex budgets and knowledge of reporting requirements of donors. You’ll bring an understanding of the global humanitarian system and strong, practical experience of working with Communication with Communities and Community Engagement concepts and techniques. Your experience working alongside a diverse range of partner organisations will be key, as will your ability to manage diverse teams. Your ability to develop and pitch new business ideas will also be important in this role
