IBTCI in Ethiopia Current Job Vacancy for Gender Expert

Overview: IBTCI is seeking a Gender Expert for the United Nations’ World Food Program (WFP) to advise a team conducting Country Portfolio Evaluations of WFP’s operation in Ethiopia. The period of performance is expected to be from December 2017 through June 2018. Ethiopia is one of the largest operations of WFP. The objective of the activity is threefold: i) to assess the quality of the data and the analysis used by WFP to assess and respond to food security and nutrition needs, ii) to assess which additional factors have determined the existing response, iii) and to assess whether WFP has contributed to placing the issue of food security on the national agenda. This position is contingent upon award.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties/Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Participate in team meetings, key informant interviews, group meetings, and site visits.
  • Draft the sections of the report relevant to his/her expertise and role in the team.
  • Participate in presenting the report to WFP or other stakeholders.
  • responsible for addressing pertinent comments provided by WFP or other stakeholders.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Technical food security expertise or experience working on food security activities, preferably in Ethiopia.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the latest developments in advancing best practices in promotion of women’s empowerment and gender sensitivity.
  • Technical experience related to any of the following is preferred: nutrition, emergency preparedness, and resilience.
  • Excellent organization and writing skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver a quality written product.
  • Excellent oral communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Oral and written proficiency in Amharic preferred.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • At least 10 years of working on gender issues in the developing world required.
  • 8 years of experience conducting gender inclusive monitoring and evaluating assessments is required.
  • Fluency in speaking, reading, and writing English required.

Education: A postgraduate degree in gender studies, international development, or a related discipline required.
Working Environment: Work is typically performed in an office environment, with some time spent in the field.
Supervisory Responsibility: This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
Physical Requirements: This is largely a sedentary position that requires the ability to speak, hear, see, and lift small objects up to 20 lbs.
Travel: International travel may be required.
