Purpose

The African Union Commission launched their Campaign to End Child Marriage in Africa in May 2014 and is implementing a number of activities including regular country launches including high-level advocacy events.

While the Department of Social Affairs has a dedicated regular staff, serving as Coordinator of the AU Campaign to End Child Marriage, additional technical support is urgently required to support the AU Department of Social Affairs for the promotion and implementation of the African Union Campaign to End Child Marriage by enhancing the visibility and engagement of various stakeholders with the Campaign of the Assignment

Assignment Tasks

  • Conduct media monitoring, media tracking as well as produce media clippings in response to relevant statistics;
  • Update communication monitoring and evaluation data, and assist with events communication;
  • Assist with marketing and branding through technological platforms, particularly social media;
  • Updating and uploading regularly all content on the Campaign to the website including related information from other AUC departments’ programmes;
  • Working with AUC Communication department to link the Campaign site to AUC website;
  • Assisting in creating graphics, videos, tweets, Facebook and Instagram posts, and all other digital content to convert complex research into short, compelling, memorable ideas;
  • Linking up with partners and other organizations working on child marriage and harmful traditional practices and creating discussion forums;
  • Assisting in monitoring and analyzing by keeping updated all professional feeds;
  • Help to identify emerging digital channels that the Campaign can utilize to more effectively reach its objectives.
  • Assisting in researching and identifying different artistic stakeholders to create collaboration for greater outreach.
  • Supporting logistical arrangements necessary for travel, following up on memos and approvals; preparing letters of invitation for participating stakeholders during meeting, and assisting the Technical Working Group to the Campaign by drafting meeting minutes.

The main expected outputs will be:

Increased public profile of the Campaign to ensure that messages on transformation and empowerment are shared and communicated widely among various stakeholders;

11 months ( 17th July 2017 to 15th June 2018)

Payments based upon approval of monthly assessment

Qualifications of Successful Candidate

Education

  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Communication, Website Management or other related discipline;
  • Excellent writing skills in English and ability to work with more than one AU official language is highly desirable;
  • Excellent computer skills: experience with digital communications strategy, including social media, email, and website management.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced and team oriented environment.
  • The ability to work quickly to tight deadlines under pressure.

Years of relevant experience

  • Five years experience in administrative support with some experience in website or communication

Conditions of Service

The Website Communication Assistant will be based in Addis Ababa in the Department of Social Affairs- AUC and work under the supervision and guidance of the Director, DSA/AUC and also direct supervision of the Head of Social Welfare and Vulnerable Groups- AU Child Marriage Campaign.
