International Committee of the Red Cross in Egypt Job Vacancy for Media Analyst

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is an impartial, neutral and independent international humanitarian organization. It runs a Regional Communication Centre (RCC) in Cairo that works in close cooperation its headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, and with 17 offices in the Middle East and Africa.

Tasks

The media analyst is part of a four-member team in Cairo and works closely with colleagues in ICRC delegations in the Middle East, some in Arabic-speaking Africa, and with the headquarters in Geneva.

  • S/he identifies, collects, monitors, tracks, synthesizes and analyses public information and conversations primarily in relation to the humanitarian situation, the ICRC’s environment, the organization’s visibility, perception and reputation in both traditional and social Arab media;
  • S/he identifies at an early stage humanitarian risks, issues and trends that might have an impact on the ICRC’s operations, acceptance and reputation;
  • The media analyst carries out in-depth research into pan-Arabic sources of information, contributes to the data extraction ensuring accuracy and performing quality checks;
  • Storytelling ability through visually clear and reader-friendly reports;
  • S/he contributes to building and developing the capacity of colleagues in Arabic-speaking countries;
  • S/he explores new data sources and analytical techniques.

Selection requirements

  • University degree in communication, political science, information science, marketing, economic or international relations;
  • Four years or more of professional experience in a similar function, notably media monitoring or data analysis;
  • Egyptian national or resident holding a work permit in Egypt;
  • Experience with a humanitarian organization an asset;
  • Excellent written and spoken Arabic skills; fluent in written and spoken English; French an asset;
  • Very good communicator, excellent analytical and writing skills;
  • Confirmed capacity to analyse the political and social environment in the Middle East and beyond;
  • Knowledge of, and experience, with various professional social media monitoring tools;
  • Very good computer skills;
  • Data visualization skills (e.g. using Tableau) and experience in data analysis and statistical methods, including social network analysis (e.g Gephi) being assets.
  • Interest in data science, statistics, media technology and a passion of bringing it to use for social sciences;
  • Shows initiative, reliable, organized, autonomous; team-player and respectful towards others;
  • Creative, solution and service-oriented;
  • Analytical mindset with strong logic and problem-solving abilities;
  • Excellent methodological skills;
  • Strong interest in the humanitarian field and media analysis;
  • Ability to adapt to varying workloads and to work under pressure with very short deadlines in a constrained technological environment.
