ChristianAid in Ethiopia Job Vacancy for Programme Officer, Climate Knowledge Management

About the role

To ensure effectiveness of climate knowledge exchange mechanisms in the Climate Information and Assets for Resilience in Ethiopia (CIARE) project through facilitating routine climate knowledge related project activities, fostering partnership among climate services actors, progress tracking and documentation of lessons in climate services. This post will have roles in directly coordinating technical activities of climate knowledge management implemented by UK Met Office and NMA. In addition, the role will contribute to the representation and brand of Christian Aid to engage with and promote its role in climate knowledge management at operational levels and establish strong linkage with government, donors, and the international community. The role works within the International Programmes role family and will be part of the CIARE project management team in Ethiopia composed of the Senior Programme Manager, the Programme officer for climate change and the programme Finance Officer. He/she will be line managed by the Senior programme Manager (CIARE). The role is key to manage day-to-day technical activities relevant to climate knowledge management, programme wide support including capacity building to CA CIARE partnerships and programmes in Ethiopia and mainstreaming climate information in to livelihood enhancement interventions and decisions.

About you

We are looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic candidate who can work with both internal CA staff,external stake holders,  and government departments. You will need to be proactive, solution-focused and have strong negotiation and interpersonal skills. You will be a team player, able to establish good team relationships across CA staff and other stake holders. Essential

 

  • MSc degree in field of climatology, meteorology, agro-meteorology, hydro-meteorology or equivalent;
  • Above five years of professional experiences in climate knowledge management relevant fields;
  • Solid understanding and experiences in climate risk analysis; weather forecasting; climate modeling and down-scaling techniques;
  • High level technical and professional  competence on integrating climate information with other sectors and livelihoods such as agriculture and environmental resources management;
  • Proven skills in conducting climate research, climate knowledge generation, and communication;
  • Excellent inter-personal skills and nurturing partnership among development actors.

Desirable

  • Experiences of working in Ethiopia and practical understanding of the different livelihood and climate regimes in the country;

Previous experiences in managing partnerships with international actors.

IT competency required:  High level IT competence and knowledge of different metrology related software applications
