British American Tobacco has an exciting opportunity for a Market Development Manager to join our team in Abidjan.
The role will have a regional reach and it will cover several countries in the West Africa Area, among which: Mali, Niger, Ivory Coast.
Purpose Statement:
Participate in the development and implementation of a brand marketing strategy in line with brand objectives and BAT global marketing strategy. Facilitate implementation of Trade Marketing strategy towards delivering corporate objectives.
Key Accountabilities:
i. Operations/ Professional/ Business:
Derive brand plans provided by Area Brand Group into Brand Programs worked out and agreed with Market Managers
Derive Brand Programs into Activity Recommendations worked out and agreed with Market Managers, in line with brand strategy and corporate guidelines
Consolidate Brand Programs into a 18 month rolling cycle plan
Provide end markets with all means defined with them, so to enable theOn Time In Full (OTIF) execution of the activities stipulated in the cycle plan and ensure brand objectives are achieved
Monitor activities accordingly with cycle plan, both for Brand & Trade
Recommend venues, communication channels and schedule for activities
Rigorously analyze and report marketing research data to ensure brand issues are understood and corrective action identified
ii. Management:
Ensure pro-active definition of the budget forecast according to the 18 month rolling cycle plan
Propose following year Brand Spend Expenditure (BSE) according to Brand Plans/NPI or any other Nexus related project for Base Plan (July) and Co-Plan purposes (October)
Monitor and report BSE related to markets under responsibilities to ensure it does not exceed budget
Apply best practice in brand management to optimize efficiency and effectiveness
Monitor all other resources allocated to implement cycle plan to ensure efficiency in execution
Actively participate to the Effective Marketing Focus Planning (EMFP) process by supporting Cluster/Market Managers
Plan & raise all Activity Recommendations (AcRecs) as per as per approved processes in a timely manner
Execute OTIF and evaluate all activities on the agreed framework (OPM cycle plan base)
Follow up and monitor of marketing resources throughout a weekly control of BSE and advertising materials
Aligned to audit guidelines, ensure that all control processes are followed, with regular checks to ensure governance & compliance – 100% on time completion of brand audit action points (timing as Audit report)
Ensure 100% adherence to IMP in letter and spirit.
iii. Leadership:
Proactively take leadership for own development
Prepare & present Marketing activities status/reports for Cycle Plan Meetings
Ensures pro-active on-going discussions with Market Managers so that the 18 month rolling cycle plan is defined at any time.
iv. Relationship:
Monitor external agencies to ensure activities are to cost and to agreed timescales and excellence is in execution
Handle communication between Brand Marketing, Trade Marketing and Operations to ensure the cycle plan is effectively executed
Develop proactive excellent relations with indirect procurement to ensure marketing material is delivered OTIF to end markets
v. Innovation:
Deploy innovation in products and processes in order to achieve competitive advantage
Contribute to develop an innovation culture within the department to drive productivity and growth
Essential requirements
6 to 8 years experience in Brand Management and Trade Marketing in an FMCG company or marketing agencies
Fluent in English and French
Excellent communication skills
Desirable requirements
The jobholder must be able to demonstrate an interest in and awareness of product development, trade and consumer insights, copy strategy and ATL/BTL communication.
The principal skills required are in thinking/operating strategically, making things happen and communication/interpersonal skills.
