Around 45,000 children under the age of five in Nigeria die from diarrhoeal diseases caused by the nation’s poor levels of access to water, sanitation and hygiene. 31% of the Nigerian population do not have access to safe water– that’s nearly 58 million people. While 71% of Nigeria’s population lacks access to basic sanitation, that’s over 130 million people without a toilet! This is a crisis that needs action to ensure that the story is one of universal access-everyone everywhere in Nigeria having access to high quality water, sanitation and hygiene services by 2030.
WaterAid Nigeria has recently agreed a 5 year strategy and has restructured to be more effective in responding to the needs in the country context. We are expanding the scale and scope of our work over the coming years with a view to supporting and catalysing government efforts to deliver the SDGs especially Goal 6.
We seek a Director of Business Development and Strategy to play a leading role in our mission to transform lives with safe water, sanitation and hygiene in the world’s poorest communities.
Working with the Business Development and Strategy directorate of WaterAid Nigeria in Abuja, this senior management role has oversight for business development and for raising and managing funds from a diversified mix of private and public sources including mass engagement, grant making private foundations and bilateral /multilateral donors. This role will also be responsible for our communications and campaign activities to achieve influencing and fundraising and for assuring linkages between strategy and activities. Accountability for effective CP business planning; forecasting; thematic reviews; research and programme monitoring, evaluation and learning reside with the Director, Business Development & Strategy.
To be successful in the Director of Business Development and Strategy role, you must have a graduate or Masters level degree and possess a minimum of ten years post graduation work experience. At least three of these years of experience should be in senior level position with experience and responsibility for managing projects funded by key multilateral and bilateral donors including DFID, USAID and EU.
