Job Overview
Reporting to the operations manager within primary extraction, you will be responsible for coordinating and leading a team of operators and providing on-site leadership to achieve the safe and efficient operations and maintenance of the Fort Hills assets. You will also ensure the operations team is performing work safely, efficiently and to a high standard, while providing active leadership with respect to our “Journey to Zero” safety vision.
Key Accountabilities
- Supervise the on-the-ground delivery of operational plans with the majority of time spent working in the field
- Prioritize and coordinate operations work and shift priorities for the proficient and safe execution of the approved work schedule
- Provide leadership to the operations team and apply the appropriate allocation of resources and ensure that all work is assigned to team members who have the requisite skills and experience
- Communicate all issues in a timely manner, identify risk items, and define appropriate action plans
- Track and monitor operational key performance indicators, report any deviation from targets, develop corrective actions and work effectively with team to drive improvements
- Recruit and develop capable and competent operations personnel, establish clear expectations and goals, review and manage performance and ensure provision of appropriate training and development
- Ensure compliance to all relevant Suncor policies and standards
- Investigate incidents and near misses to determine root causes and develop corrective action plans
- Drive a structured approach to upholding all health, safety and environment standards, and ensure effective actions and programs are in place to sustain safety, environmental and reliability performance goals (field level risk assessments, focused observations, incident learning and prevention)
Required Qualifications
Experience and Education:
- Five or more years of experience working in mining, oil and gas or a similar industrial environment (post-apprenticeship)
- Five or more years of experience working in ore processing plant (OPP) and/or primary extraction
- Two or more years of supervisory experience
- Trades Certificate, Diploma or Degree in a relevant technical field (e.g. Engineering) or equivalent operational experience
- High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
- Power Engineering accreditation is desirable
- Possess a valid driver’s licence and a clean driving record
- Attach your journeyman / red seal ticket with your application in order to be considered
Skills and Knowledge:
- Demonstrated expertise and in-depth technical knowledge of operations best practices for oil sands materials handling including commissioning, start-up, shut-down and turnaround for plant facilities
- Understanding of complex technical operating environment, coordinating of daily objectives and setting priorities to achieve daily production plan
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and the use of at least one industry standard Enterprise Resource Planning tool (preferably SAP)
- You hold others accountable, and expect others to do the same
- You do not take or tolerate shortcuts and if the procedure is incorrect, you fix it
Working Conditions
- This position has been identified as being safety sensitive
- This is a camp based position at the Fort Hills site
- Shift schedule will be seven days on / seven days off
