INTERNSHIP SUMMARY:

Increasingly the development field is focused on encouraging partnerships with local organizations and better coordination across implementing partners. EngenderHealth places a high value on strategic partnerships that improve our capacity to carry out our mission and work. Strategic partnerships spur investment and growth while improving transparency and accountability. Under the overall leadership of the Vice-President Program Management and the direct supervision of the Director for Programs & Country Operations Support, the intern will conduct an internal assessment of current and potential partnerships and assist in standardizing a process for selecting, establishing, and maintaining strategic partnerships.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Discuss with relevant departments/colleagues at headquarters (PMT, S&I, EXR) and identify/map out existing and past partnerships, both formal and informal, with a description of the organizations involved, purpose and nature of these partnerships, dates, duration, etc.;
Coordinate with PMT country backstops to liaise with country offices to identify and map out existing formal partnerships;
Draw up analysis of these experiences, including cost and benefit analysis (financial, technical, pragmatic and advocacy-wise);
Liaising with HQ departments and field offices, map-out potential partnerships already identify at the global and country levels;
Establish a repository/data base of these partnerships in a systemic manner;
Based on existing identified partnerships, identify common denominators and benchmarks to define potential criteria for partnerships building;
Help develop a draft framework and process for strategic partnerships for EngenderHealth;
In coordination with the EXR teams, help develop a partnership agreement template; and
Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:
Masters’ degree in public health, international relations, political science, social science, international economics, international law
Fluent in English, good command of French
Some experience with or research work on non-profit organizations and partnerships
Knowledge of international affairs, including development, especially in Africa and Asia
Strong analytical, problem solving, and negotiation skills
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Good understanding of international development and foreign aid environment
Excellent organizational, planning, and reporting skills
Experience with planning processes
