Consultant – Documentation of Communication Materials
Job Description
Document success stories and lessons learned from the implementation of the project, in terms of strengthening capacity, improving house hold economic status, improving nutritional status, access to education and healthcare as a result of project interventions and access to HIV/AIDS services.
Create varied information pack from compiled material for distribution to STEER stakeholders
Tasks and Responsibilities in order to achieve the envisaged objectives, the consultant under the overall supervision of STEER will;
Work in collaboration with STEER to determine the exact scope of the stories; identify and develop topics and agree on the final scope of work.
Prepare tools and formats that will be used for documenting the stories.
Conduct field work in the selected communities with STEER program and partner staff.
This will include focus group discussions, interviews, observations and visits to beneficiaries to elicit their views.
Prepare success stories by analyzing and presenting relevant information about project implementation.
Produce the text, photographs and info graphics for varied info-pack (8-12pages) highlighting success stories and including voices of beneficiaries and other stakeholders in various thematic areas.
The consultant will deliver to STEER;
An inception report demonstrating understanding of the tasks in the ToR and how they propose to accomplish the required tasks.
Documentaries, short video clips and photography (saved on appropriate devices – DVDs, Flash Disk etc. 3 copies each).
High quality information pack (in various forms i.e. a one pager brief and some 8-12 pages) of success stories in various thematic areas (these will only be in “ready for print” format, printing/production is not included)
Candidate Requirements
University degree in Journalism, Communications or related field;
Master’s degree in Public Health;
At least five years of professional experience in investigative and human impact story writing, preferably on Orphans and Vulnerable Children, HIV/AIDS and Child rights issues;
Proven experience in working with international organizations
Photography skills and experience;
Ability to analyze and synthesize relevant information and develop highly analytical reports;
Excellent editing skills and ability to integrate human interest with statistics and technical reports to present credible content;
High sense of journalistic ethics and in-depth understanding of child right issues: Fluent in English (spoken and written) and Hausa (spoken)
Ability to deliver products on time against tight deadlines;
Demonstrate initiative, creativity and flexibility.
