Project Overview
IPA Ghana seeks Field Supervisors to work on the “Guidance and Information for Improved Decisions in Education” (GUIIDE)project. GUIIDE is a project that examines the impact of information on the demand for education. Specifically, the project will examine whether the provision of information about SHS and the strategic way of making SHS choices affect how final year JHS students select schools for secondary education. Additionally, the project will assess the long term effect of the information intervention on educational attainment and future job selection.  The GUIIDE project is undertaken by IPA in collaboration with Ghana Education Service (GES) and other affiliate bodies in the education sector.

Job Description
Field Supervisors report directly to the Field Manager and are responsible for the quality and progress of field activities. They play a significant role in ensuring that work is carried out systematically and in accordance with prescribed IPA data collection protocols.

The specific tasks of the Field Supervisor include:

  • Plan, coordinate, train, and supervise survey teams’ administration of all modules of the GUIIDE Study in selected schools;
  • Assist in monitoring and assessing the quality of the work of survey teams, team leaders and interviewers;
  • Monitor the condition of survey equipment assigned to the interviewers;
  • Maintain team motivation and morale and foster team spirit;
  • Other tasks as will be assigned by the Research Associate/Field Manager.

Required Skills or Experience

  • Minimum of a Higher National Diploma (HND) in any social science discipline, e.g. Statistics or any related field;
  • Prior experience in working with Computer Assisted Personal Interviewing (CAPI) is preferable;
  • Demonstrate professional maturity, excellent organizational and good interpersonal skills for teamwork, and good written and verbal communication skills;
  • At least two (2) years of experience in school-based data collection;
  • Experience in survey fieldwork supervision;
  • Knowledgeable about Microsoft Applications like MS Word and Excel;
  • Ability to work to meet deadlines in multiple tasking environments;
  • Willingness to travel the length and breadth of the Ashanti region
  • Fluency in English and the Twi language is preferred
  • Residency in Ashanti Region is a plus
  • Be available for training and work by 2nd May, 2016
