Purpose:
To join SILS our global LNG trading organization.
SILS is a leader in the LNG industry which continues to grow rapidly. We are moving towards a more dynamic traded market and SILS is a significant contributor to this change.
The operator should be a quick learner as third parties look to Shell for guidance in this fast growing business. They will be expected to acquire commercial awareness of LNG trading and knowledge of the ship chartering business in addition to cargo operational expertise. Many of our customers are new to the industry, so it is vital that excellent relationship management skills are used to manage external relationships, accompanied by the ability to adapt to the bespoke nature of LNG when adapting processes and solutions.
Accountabilities: The LNG Operations team is responsible, on a day to day basis, for the timely implementation and execution of freight and commercial transactions. In addition to being responsible for Trading operations and working closely with our Traders, this incumbent will also be expected to operate and cover for Freight operations.
The key roles and responsibilities are:
-Ensure that all obligations arising from the contract/Time charter party are carried out, and that any necessary requirements are complied with.
-Deal with cargo and freight counter-parties on a regular basis regarding all pre and post-deal activities ensuring all necessary operational information is passed on in good time and are met (voyage and positioning orders, agency appointments , documentary and load/discharge instructions, LOI and heel retention orders).
-Validate vessel/terminal compatibilities and ensure GMAS, SSCS and terminal due diligence are carried out.
– Appoint independent inspectors, expeditors and ships agents.
-Ensure delivery notices are sent in line with TCP and initial invoice is created/settled.
-Ensure bunker stocks meet programme and safety requirements (volume and grade) and nominate stem accordingly.
-Monitor vessel day to day performance vs voyage orders.
-Liaise with Optimization, Freight traders and cargo operators to ensure voyage orders meet requirements of commercial LNG contracts and propose solutions for infeasible situations.
-Ensure that all operational information is entered into Shell Trading systems (Trading / Operations Cargo Systems, Integrated Marine Operating System, RADAR, Quality and Compatibility Model, etc.).
-Specifically seek to add value by exercising embedded commercial and logistical deal options and by pro-active approach to problem solving.
-Advise commercial colleagues on the workability of proposed contractual arrangements for new projects, new contracts and spot cargoes.
-Agree supply schedules with third parties and calculate cargo prices.
-Carry out contractual volume reconciliations ready for the annual delivery program discussions.
-Process freight reconciliations (internal, external or NLNG recon).
-Ensure that all financial security is in place.
Dimensions:
The successful candidate will rely on strong commercial application of economics and optimization skills for profitable operations which will clearly contribute to the Trading desk bottom line results.
The incumbent is expected to maintain an active profile in the market liaising with other LNG operators in the industry to maintain good operational relationships as these have a direct consequences for the relevant commercial relationships and future SILS business.
Special Challenges:
This position is in the LNG commercial operations area within Shell International Trading Middle East, which is part of the Shell Global Trading Network. Trading Operators are responsible for managing the “Life of a Deal” from interpretation of Traders’ deals through to prevention of profit leakage from the business.
The ability to prioritize from several potentially conflicting tasks whilst keeping composure is essential to success in dealings with internal and external customers. We are looking for a person willing to work to deadlines in a very dynamic, fast-moving, frequently changing environment with attention to detail, proven team working and communication skills are essential.
