ExxonMobil Chemical’s Fife Ethylene Plant (FEP) is one of Europe’s largest and most modern ethylene plants. Construction at Mossmorran, 25 miles north of Edinburgh, began in 1981 and the plant was officially opened by the Queen in 1986. It was the first plant specifically designed to use natural gas liquids from the North Sea as feedstock. Around 170 employees and 50 core contractors work at the plant that has an annual capacity of 830,000 tonnes of ethylene. We are seeking a number of talented individuals to work as Process Technicians at FEP, within ExxonMobil. Working as part of a small shift team, Process Technicians are responsible for the safe and efficient operation of their work area, focusing on safety, health & environment, reliability and operational integrity, seeking new ways to improve equipment and systems’ performance and, ultimately, delivering the operating plan. Part of a small shift team, the Process Technician will have responsibilities in a wide range of areas associated with their plant operation, including safety, health & environment, reliability and operational integrity, and meeting the operating plan. Main responsibilities will include: • The safety and integrity of the process plant and equipment that you are assigned to operate • Operation of local plant equipment including running the plant efficiently and economically, plant monitoring and fault diagnosis, planned and unplanned start up and shut down • Monitoring and operating plant from the Central Control Room • Responding to incidents, hazardous conditions or emergencies • Routine care of the operating equipment to maximise equipment reliability and minimise the need for plant maintenance • Equipment preparation and minor maintenance activities • Work within shift to ensure delivery of individual and team responsibilities and objectives • Provide input and support to gross margin improvement and cost reduction initiatives Monitoring and adjusting the operation during shift is a key part of the job; in part this is done in the control room but the Technician is also required to gain access to all parts of the actual plant to make any necessary physical adjustments. Career progression would, in the first instance, be broadening and deepening of your technical knowledge with of the plant with intensive training and increasing the scope of your responsibilities over the first two years.
Requirements of Candidate
A good general education to Standard/O Grades 1-3, preferably including English, Mathematics, Chemistry and one other Technical subject. Relevant further education will also be considered. Ideally candidates will have some experience of engineering, preferably in oil and gas, chemicals, pharmaceuticals or the broader energy industry. Experience of mechanical, electrical or process equipment would be advantageous, as would some maintenance skills.
Of equal importance will be a sound, ‘can-do’, team-building ethic and attitude, coupled with a desire to succeed and to develop your technical skills and demonstrate your potential for career progression. There are a wide variety of opportunities to take on more responsibility in future years, including Event Co-ordination, and Supervisory positions.
