Purpose of the role
Through a targeted training and development programme, BBC Media Action is working to support the development of the media sector in Tunisia. Its main project, Focus on Tunisia, aims at ensuring Tunisian National Television has greater capacity to play a role as the public service broadcaster.
As Driver and Logistics Assistant, you’ll contribute to ensuring that this project and other BBC Media Action activities in Tunis are implemented according to the highest standards and in compliance with BBC and BBC Media Action values, rules and guidelines.
Responsibilities
Safely drive staff, consultants, beneficiaries and audiences, as required;
Contribute to ensuring that the BBC Media Action Tunis office is compliant with Tunisian driving regulations as well as BBC and BBC Media Action values, guidance and rules, including Health and Safety guidelines;
As requested, support the Head of Administration and Finance and the Country Director Tunisia/Algeria with logistics for various types of activities;
Make all transport arrangements and plan trips for staff, consultants, beneficiaries and audiences as required by activity plans;
Contribute to the writing of risk assessment forms and implement them;
Ensure vehicle maintenance and security; inspect car for defects before, during and after trips; and report any issues to Finance and Administrative Manager and Country Director;
Verify and renew vehicle rental contract on a monthly basis and ensure only registered drivers are using the Tunis office car;
Fill in medical forms, ensure they are signed by relevant manager and given to staff and consultants upon arrival in the country;
Purchase equipment in line with BBC and donor procurement guidelines;
Manage office supplies, equipment and assets; premises maintenance and prepare purchase orders;
Take responsibility for ensuring the good state of the BBC Media Action Tunis office, inside and outside, including the functioning and safety of all equipment, furniture and tools;
Support project activity implementation by bookings flights, hotels and transportation according to deadlines and activity plans communicated by Head of Administration and Finance;
Contribute to the implementation of strategies, projects and programmes of training and development, in line with regional and country strategies;
Contribute to the planning, coordination and logistics of BBC Media Action activities for current and future projects as well as other activities, as requested.
Skills, knowledge and experience required
Experienced as a driver for an international organisation;
Ability to work on own initiative to organise time effectively within a range of often conflicting deadlines. Capacity to juggle competing priorities and a busy programme of work while working to an agreed strategy;
Ability to work flexibility and as part of a team;
Able to work in a variety of environments;
The ability to forge strong working relationships quickly and gain the trust of colleagues, trainers, trainees and partners in the region;
Experience of supporting staff from different backgrounds both on-site and remotely;
Fluent Arabic and French, and ability to communicate in English;
Readiness to work long hours, on weekends or on public holidays when reasonably required.
