My client, a leading global oil and gas operator are looking for a Lead Reservoir Engineer to join their team on a permanent basis in South Africa.
Key responsibilities will include:
* Driving the regional testing and logging data acquisition campaigns in Kenya and Ethiopia, where 5 drilling rigs are operating from 2014 to 2016.
* Interpreting data and feed back the findings to the Cape Town Exploration and London Development teams, ensuring that learnings are applied to subsequent operational activities.
* Continually optimise operational practices and efficiencies, acting as the go-between the Exploration subsurface and Well Testing teams.
* The role will extend to other operated regions, such as Namibia, and non-operated blocks when required.
* Preparing detailed DST proposals via integration of material from all subsurface disciplines and agreement from partners.
* Liaising with well test engineers to optimise DST procedures, making real time decisions on data acquisition issues (flow durations).
* Interpreting and writing up DST results, presenting them to internal management, collaborating teams, partners and auditors.
* Periodic requirements to witness well tests in the field, ~ 3-4 times a year.
* Overseeing real-time MDT/RCI logging operations remotely and doing the interpretation.
* Liaising with AfriQA, petrophysics team, and Operations Geology on logging tool selection and MDT/RCI sample criteria.
* Oversight and administration of PVT analysis on all fluid samples.
* Attendance at occasional data rooms for New Ventures.
* Liaison with other offices on results (data handover, presentations).
* Manage 2 direct reports plus 2 consultants: setting objectives, performing appraisals, mentoring junior staff.
* Develop team’s long term capabilities, including graduate hire, including nationals of countries where the Company operates.
* Input into budget planning and key contributor to decisions around best use of rig time, but no formal direct delegation of financial authority.
The ideal candidate will have:
* Extensive experience of broad Petroleum Engineering with a strong knowledge about wellsite procedures and equipment selection associated with production testing and wireline logging and sampling operations.
* Experienced in use of well test planning and interpretation software (Kappa Sapphir, Emeraude, PanSys, Prosper).
* Familiar with a wide range of artificial lift options, their methods of deployment, advantages and limitations.
* Competent user of MBAL, PVTP/PVTSim, and Eclipse (E100/Petrel RE) simulation for asset characterisation, classical forecasting and simulation model preparation if required for detailed asset studies.
* Familiar with PRMS reserves guidelines and capable of preparing robust estimates of 1P/2P/3P or 1C/2C/3C reserves/resources.
* Strong geoscience foundation, familiar with all major aspects of geological and seismic interpretation (2D and 3D).
* Able to perform detailed log interpretations of non-complex reservoirs (IP).
* Record of involvement with large frontier exploration and appraisal campaigns, preferably in Africa.
* A convincing communicator, comfortable addressing colleagues, JV partners, auditors and Directors.
* Understands Value of Information, and its continuous integration into a learning organisation.
* Succinct, accurate, quick and tidy reporting style.
* Ability to work on simultaneous projects with multi-disciplinary colleagues.
* Willing to engage with detailed own study while supporting others.
