ActionAid Zimbabwe (AAZ) seeks a highly qualified and experienced professional in Accountability to advance the political influence of people living in poverty, hold governments and corporates accountable and promote solutions for long-term empowerment of the poor and excluded people and the most vulnerable in Zimbabwe. ActionAid is a global movement of people working in 43 countries to further human rights for all and defeat poverty. In Zimbabwe, ActionAid Zimbabwe has a wide spread geographical coverage with presence in over 12 districts. ActionAid uses the Human rights Based approach emphasising building civic competence to challenge injustices, empower youth to practice their roles and responsibilities and be able to demand for fulfilment of their human rights.
The main objective of the Accountability Advisor is to:
Support the stakeholder analysis of current women organizations (both state and non-state) and engage them on various issues of concern to women; especially on accountability and access to service delivery issues.
Provide technical support in areas of gender mainstreaming and facilitate the mobilization of women towards accessing systems and process of public service provision in communities where rights have been violated.
Enhance technical knowledge sharing and transfer through design and training in courses on women leadership, civic participation, accountability and policy analysis; and connecting these to organizational advocacy work.
Providing guidance and support to strengthen Women Watch Groups and improve knowledge transfer to affected women in communities.
Professional experience and qualifications:
Master’s Degree or equivalent in social sciences or discipline relevant to governance, public administration, local authority administration, public policy analysis and development studies.
Proven record of achievement of more than 5 years, of which 3 years should be in developing countries, preferably in Africa – in training and leadership grooming, working with International NGOs, government Institutions and donor agencies.
Demonstrated abilities and contributions to designing tools and implementing accountability methodologies such as public expenditure tracking, community score cards etc.
EXPECTED STARTING DATE: 1st November 2014 preferred).
Contract start is subject to approval of work permit. The assignment is for 24 months, with the possibility for renewal. (Work permit processing usually takes up to six weeks when all relevant documents are submitted).
