ActionAid International Zimbabwe (AAZ) seeks a highly qualified and experienced professional to support improvements in the quality, equity and gender responsiveness of public services disadvantage people and youth at both national and Local Rights Programmes (LRP) level. The Access to Public Services Advisor will be hosted by ActionAid International partner, Institute for Young Women Development (IYWD), a development oriented organization that was founded in 2009.
ActionAid is a global movement of people working in 43 countries to further human rights for all and defeat poverty. In Zimbabwe, ActionAid Zimbabwe (AAZ) has a wide spread geographical coverage with presence in over 12 districts. ActionAid uses the Human rights Based approach emphasising building civic competence to challenge injustices, empower youth to practice their roles and responsibilities and able them to demand fulfilment of their human rights. The Institute for Young Women Development has projects on women socio-economic and civil rights, young women participation in policy dialogue processes and business management. The organisation aims at promoting sustainable livelihoods among young women from marginalised communities that include rural, farming and mining communities and has since its formation implemented projects in Mashonaland Central Province.
The main objective of the Access to Public Services Advisor is to:
Support the evaluation of status of young women’s access to public services and develop their capacities for meaningful policy dialogue and engagement for the promotion and protection of their social rights.
Support AAIZ youth partners and Focus Area Coordinators to map out critical issues for youth engagement at both national and LRP level and guide them to design youth and children friendly and focused interventions
Assist AAIZ, IYWD and other youth partner organizations to design demand driven programmes that advocate for the improvement of youth access to public services.
Conducting and supporting group training and providing individual coaching sessions to empower key youth with advocacy, lobbying and proactive dialogue skills for use in engagement with different leadership players in government.
Support LRP Coordinators to integrate youth programs into their annual plans; and put in place mechanisms that promote continuity of youth and children issues at local and national levels.
Professional experience and qualifications:
Master’s Degree or equivalent in social sciences or relevant disciplines like Public Sector Management, Public Administration, Development Studies.
Proven record of achievement over 4 years of increasingly responsible experience in youth related civil society work, at least a youthful age of between (18-35) years with a passion for working and engaging with all categories of youth.
Demonstrated abilities and contributions to youth programmes (ideally in at least one area of youth in design, implementation and or/M&E.
Strong strategic research and policy analysis skills, advocacy & lobby skills with knowledge on the use of ICTs, social media for mobilization and advocacy. Experience in Youth Economic Empowerment and good understanding of young women issues.
EXPECTED STARTING DATE: 1st November 2014 preferred
Contract start is subject to approval of work permit. The assignment is for 24 months, with the possibility for renewal. (Work permit processing usually takes up to six weeks when all relevant documents are submitted).
