UNITED NATIONS DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME/FEDERAL MINISTRY OF YOUTH DEVELOPMENT RECRUITMENT FOR JUNIOR PROFESSIONAL OFFICERS
The Junior Professional Officers Programme (JPO-P) is a United Nations programme for recruitment of young people to work in the United Nations system for a period of one to two years which could be extended to the third year subject to satisfactory performance. The Programme provides the opportunity for young professionals from donor countries to gain value experience in development management and multi-lateral development cooperation on the international environment.
The recruitment of JPO is an annual exercise but based on the financial cycle of the donors. Decisions on sponsorship are made at the beginning of each year and the number of JPOs selected varies depending on the donor’s financial resources.
Nigeria’s entry into the programme: The Federal Government of Nigeria and the UNDP signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the 29th of October 2012 to further actualize the president’s major aspect of the transformation agenda which is to create employment.
The Junior Professional Officers Programme is administered by the JPO Service Center for various UN Agencies.
