Adexen Recruitment Agency is looking to recruit an expatriate Financial Controller for Nigeria.

Our client is a one of Sub-Saharan Africa’s leading diversified business group with interest in manufacturing, flour milling, shipping, port management, agriculture, general services, industrial and commercial real estate investments.

Job description
Reporting to the Managing Director of one of the group’s business units, the key responsibility of the Financial Controller is to plan, direct and control the day to day financial functions of the company in order to enable strategic and operational decision making, and to ensure compliance with the company’s requirements.

Whilst broad in its mandate, this position has the responsibility to create and maintain an environment of robust and effective financial reporting processes, procedures and controls.

The position is based in Lagos.

Responsibilities
Oversee the smooth and efficient running of the business unit’s Finance Department.
Ensure compliance with statutory authorities and audit requirements
Maintain integrity of business unit’s accounting system (software), ensuring it remains effective and operational at all times.
Ensure all taxation and legislative requirements are complied as at when due.
Oversee the preparation and management of the capital and operating planning requirements of business unit to ensure effective performance, treasury and financial management.
Drive and administer the planning, budgeting and forecasting activities to enable timely decision making.
Co-ordinate and prepare annual budgets, including operating and capital expenditure budgets
Develop, champion and implement procedures, policies and internal controls to ensure efficient business processes to support the delivery of the company’s business objectives
On an annual basis reconcile unit gross wages, group tax, payroll tax, and superannuation & workers compensation against general ledger for review by management
Ensure that relevant information is communicated to direct reports enabling them to effectively carry out their functions
As required, become involved in relevant personnel matters including recruitment, termination and counselling.
Ensure all reasonable steps are taken in order to achieve workplace harmony within the company and other companies within the group at all times.
Qualifications et experience
Degree in Finance or a first degree in business related courses is required. Post graduate qualification desirable.
Qualified member of an accountancy body or holder of an equivalent qualification
Minimum of fifteen (15) years experience with at least ten years accounting and finance experience at senior management level incorporating analysis and problem solving principles within a large organisation.
Working knowledge of the following is required: financial accounting, compliance reporting, budget preparation, administration of employee benefits, payroll systems and reporting, office administration, relevant municipal legislation, policies and procedures.
Strong interpersonal skills and effective communication both verbal and written
The ability to lead a diverse team to achieve department and business finance demands is fundamental as is understanding protocol when interacting with management together with maintaining a high degree of sensitivity and confidentiality.
Excellent leadership skills, attention to detail and high level of accuracy
Computer skills including the ability to operate and manage computerized financial, payroll and human resource information systems, spreadsheet and at a highly proficient level
Significant working experience in Africa is required
